Hold the wrist ball in one hand, with the rotor (the open portion of the case) facing up. Stoke hard quickly across the rotor with the other hand palm in the direction of the lines on the rotor
With the wrist ball in left hand, strike with your right thumb. Flip the thumb forward, strike the rotor in the same direction as the lines on the rotor. Repeat 2 or 3 times until the rotor starts to spin rapidly.
